Post-2.0: Natural evolution
19 Mar 2009
The Web look is evolving just like any other graphic artifact and sometime we pick up old styles and adapting them to present day.
I found this very interesting article on snap2object (I know a bit old) and as Mao said, the look of Web is changing and it bring back some old style: vintage, dark and rough tone... strength and materiality diping some Web pages.
This is in contraposition to the classic 2.0 style: large space, minimalism, neutral and pastel colors, lightness, warmth, simplicity and friendly elements (I think Apple has been the most strongest influence in all of this).
I call this web 2.0 just to convention, and it doesn't mean just a technologic evolution. In my thesis "Beta, designing web 2.0 interfaces", I examined about the Web 2.0 image and now we already talk about Post-Web 2.0.
Explain a final definition about this universe is not possible. The reason is the involvement of many points of view: mainly like trends, technological and marketing, which are still under discussion.
However, this "evolution"", keep intact the basic rules about good design: correct composition, balance between elements, clarity and usability, typography, icons, etc...
Perhaps we could talk about Web 3.0 when the semantic web infect all the current Web services.
In this years, the Designers have learned to use much better the "2.0 techniques", and now we have the ability to evolve using that knowledge.
Will be interesting to see this evolution changing around us and I'm very excited about some new future technologies like CSS3 and Canvas.
I believe that this "mutation" is the same thing happens in other forms of expression, more simply: evolves.
People needs to categorize all the different levels of their creations, (like "2.0", post-2.0, 3.0 etc ...) and about Web, we have an enormous number of these steps and they are faster!
As a Designer, I'm felling completely addicted and in harmony with this pace!
Can you imagine our job in another age???
